Dr. Patrick O'Neill

Dr. Patrick O'Neill's principal area of research and teaching is ethical decision-making, particularly in the context of psychological research and practice, and has authored Negotiating Consent in Psychotherapy, which is published by New York University Press. He has a special interest in qualitative research and community psychology, and the ethical issues specific to those and other related areas.

Dr. O'Neill served for nine years on the Academic Freedom and Tenure Committee of the Canadian Association of University Teachers, including a term as Chair. He holds the title of Professor Emeritus at Acadia University where he taught until early retirement, and continues to teach Ethics in the Clinical Psychology Program at Dalhousie University. He has been Executive Director of the Council of Canadian Departments of Psychology and is a former President of the Canadian Psychological Association. Dr. O'Neill is cross appointed to two of the Interagency Advisory Panel on Research Ethics (PRE) committees: the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Ethics Special Working Committee (SSHWC) of which he is chair, and the SubGroup on Procedural Issues for the TCPS (ProGroup).
